The Weekend Wrap-Up #11
Zara's new Hair Perfume, Glossier's limited edition Shadow Sticks, the Pantone mocha trend brewing, and hacks for a healthy mind and body in winter.
Hi, everyone—happy Saturday!
Rather fittingly, I’m writing this in a cloud of Dawn: Let’s Begin, one of three new Zara Hair Perfumes which dropped on Thursday. And I’m here to say, I’m not hating it (I was a bit worried it would smell all-over body spray-ish, if that makes sense? In fact, it’s fresh and upliftingly citrusy, and has given my between-washes hair a bit of reviving texture, in an almost sea salt spray kind of way. But it’s not at all sticky).
And look at the can!
So festive, and I would say has Secret Santa/stocking stuffer written all over it, given each scent is £11.99 for purse/handbag-sized spray (ideal to sling it in a weekend/overnight bag and have a quick blast of in the morning, if you can’t face the faff of washing and blow-drying).
There’s also Dusk: And Then … (jasmine, pink sugar and light woods), and Midnight: After Everything (raspberry, white amber and vanilla).
The trio of scents is the latest release from the store’s ongoing collab with hair super-stylist Guido Palau, and the juice itself was created by renowned French perfumer Jérôme Epinette (he’s worked with Victoria Beckham, Byredo, Donna Karan, Noyz and Sol de Janeiro).
In other launch news, Glossier has unveiled four Shadow Sticks for the eyes this week, inspired by the “soft grunge” look of the late 90s and early 00s.
Perfect for creating a quick and easy smoky eye, they come in five, soft, ready-to-smudge shades, and are a limited edition.
Congrats, !
Hot on the heels of being our guest at the MBE on Tuesday—ICYMI, Bobbi gives her go-to tips for sparkling through the holidays here, in a free-for-all-to-read special edition—she was honored at the WWD’s 2024 Beauty Inc Awards in New York City on Wednesday.
Bobbi received the prestigious Pete Born Impact Award for her contributions to the beauty industry over three decades. 💄🎉
Make mine a mocha
Now that the Pantone Colour of the Year has been revealed—Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, capturing “the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort,” according to the company—the beauty world is busily whipping up limited edition tie-ins.
Expect many a mocha-mani in the year ahead (see the MBE round-up of “cafe-chic” colours earlier this autumn for inspo), lip gloss et al. Pantone has already partnered with beauty companies including IPSY to create special editions like this makeup bag, brush and sponge set, coming in April 2025.
But back to nails …
We’ve already talked about opting for festively-coloured French mani tips, but this week, Byrdie reported another take on the trend: the whole nail “French outline”—as seen here, in Christmas-sy gold.
One for the pro’s, or the steadiest hands (love how it matches the rings, and would look equally good in silver?).
Brain-healthy lifestyle hacks
Busted, via !
This quick reminder that taking care of our minds and bodies doesn’t have to be complicated inspired me, so I’m sharing! (Noted, especially the one about doing the “social scroll” first thing in the morning 😳, and the all-important EXERCISE piece in the brain health picture!).
Literally barely more than 5 minutes to listen, and worth it.
Speaking of exercise, if you’re finding it hard to motivate yourself in winter, Caroline Idiens of Caroline’s Circuits has some great advice at her blog this week.
“Consider indoor workouts like strength training, yoga or high-intensity interval training (HIIT). These activities don’t require extensive time outdoors, and they can build a solid foundation that will pay off when spring comes around,” says Caroline.
Just one of eight great takeaways. Head here to sign up for Caroline’s weekly newsletter.
Midlife style in the wild
A reel celebration of stunning silvers and grey hair tones, on some famous faces.
Amy Adams, wearing Chanel, looking just radiant on the white carpet at The Academy Women’s Luncheon this week.
And some beautiful red carpet looks at the 2024 Red Sea Film Festival in this clip, too (SJP’s sequins! A back-to-brunette Emily Blunt’s up-do and red mani! And more!).
Thank you!
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has kindly been sharing the MBE on Notes and elsewhere lately—every time someone takes a moment to restack, share or link to an edition makes such a difference to visibility on Substack (along with hitting the ❤️ button below posts). I appreciate it SO much!
Big thanks, also, to for shouting out our Bobbi special edition in yesterday’s edition of Faffing Friday.
So much to unpack in this weekend wrap up, Jenni. Thankyou for mentioning me. I didn't get any notifications from Substack that you'd tagged me or the FF post. That's not good is it if the tags don't work? I only saw because I've came specifically to read this 🤔
I remember using a hair perfume a long time ago. I can picture the bottle but the name is gone ... these days I spray my perfume above my head and walk into the waft. Job done!!
Loving the look of the Glossier sticks.
I'm off to read the brain health hacks now .. down a rabbit hole when I have so much to do!! x
Bah, that Boden cardigan is giving me FOMO :)
