The Weekend Wrap-Up #10
Clinique's Hot Honey pop-up in London, Chanel No 5 gets the cold shoulder, and Minnie Driver and SJP step out in black velvet.
Hi, hi, hi!!! Happy Saturday NIGHT, here, now!
The Weekend Wrap Up is coming to you later than planned (the UK storm threw our weekend plans, and one of the family came down with a bug—’tis the season!). I hope you’re keeping warm and well, wherever you are!
A BIG welcome to new subscribers! You’ve joined at the perfect time, as I’m THRILLED to say will be here this week to talk midlife holiday makeup hacks with the MBE.
Despite the blustery weekend weather, Clinique’s festive, two-day London pop-up, Hot Honey, drew a crowd in Covent Garden on Friday and Saturday.
The event showcased the Black Honey Pop Lip + Cheek Oil, inspired by the iconic colour first launched in 1971—who remembers the skinny, silver twist-up 90s tube?
The enduring success of the OG Black Honey inspired the double-duty lip and cheek oil, which made its debut as a summer limited edition and has been reinstated as part of the main range.
A great choice for midlife lips prone to dryness (🙋♀️), lip oils combine the fresh, shiny finish of a gloss with the hydrating benefits and slip of an oil (I love Clarins’ Lip Comfort Oil for this reason, and am reaching for it most mornings right now).
This super-sheer, shiny version of Black Honey makes burgundy, a super-hot colour this season, even easier to wear.
Frosted
Speaking of beauty icons, Chanel No 5 has had a festive makeover.
The snow-adorned limited Eau de Parfum bottle (£175) is beautiful (the effect is applied by hand), while the original, plain glass version (£145) is available with a festive golden sleeve, sans dusting.
Or, if you’re feeling artistic, maybe …
(JOKING! Very much not recommended.)
Another festive limited edition for No 5 fans, there are still some refillable purse spray atomisers, on chains featuring the number 5, still to be found (they come with two refills).
Choose from the No 5 Eau de Parfum and lighter, brighter No 5 L’Eau, in Eau de Toilette (my all-time favourite take on the classic).
In other fragrance news, — fragrance journalist, presenter, event host and Substack writer at —received a prestigious CEW 2024 Achiever Award this week.
The sister organisation to the New York-based Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW), the annual UK CEW Achiever Awards were held in London, at the Rosewood Hotel.
Brava, Alice!
Another fragrant highlight from the week? Beauty journalist Lucia Ferrari referring to the luxe, pine-scented Olverum bath oil on Instagram as “Badedas on steroids”.
ICYMI: Olverum made the MBE cut last month, in 6 of the best soaks (and shower options) to help you de-stress and sleep better.
Then and now …
Loved this!
Take a bow
Following on from Six quick and easy ways to look and feel fabulously festive on Tuesday, I spotted this MBE-magenta clip-on bow on sale at Oliver Bonas.
Midlife style in the wild
SJP crushing a black velvet trouser suit at the Torino Film Festival. Love the wide-legged pants, teamed with pearls and sparkle. (Annoyingly, you can’t see them in the thumbnail—click on reel to watch).
Minnie Driver stepping out in a ME+EM gown on Friday night.
And makeup artist Gucci Westman joined Hoda and Jenna at The Today Show this week, to demo holiday makeup looks.
Speaking of holiday makeup—don’t forget will be at the MBE this week! Thanks so much for reading and clicking 💗 Like below posts, which helps SO much in getting the MBE word out there on Substack.

Jenni, have you dabbled in any other Clinique products lately? I’m wondering if there is anything worth revisiting (I’ve been thinking a lot about brands that were huge in the 90s)
Thank you so much for this lovely shout-out!!! I really appreciate that. Love this wrap-up too!! xxx
