A night at the Opera, Halle Berry's bob, Emily In Paris' Sylvie, and the Lancôme face following in her mother's footsteps.
The Midweek Midlife Newsflash: who wore what, where, and how they got the looks.
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
The weather may have turned properly autumnal this week, but we’re heading into midweek like Cindy, in this recent shoot, with makeup by Dick Page.
Paris fashion week get underway yesterday, but L’Oréal Paris kicked thing off in glittering style on Monday.
A host of brand ambassadors hit L’Oréal’s “Walk Your Worth” runway at the Opéra de Paris, including Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria and Andie MacDowell - how much do we love this backstage moment?
And here’s Eva, runway-ready, with fellow ambassadors and actresses, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aja Naomi King.
Speaking of all things Parisienne (and the magazine cover most likely to get us reaching for our waving tongs) …
How gorgeous does Philippine Leroy Beaulieu, AKA Emily In Paris’ Sylvie, look on the cover of the new issue of Marie Claire, Greece?
Philippine’s hair was styled by Owen Gould, who often works with the actress on editorial shoots, and her glowing makeup—although, radiance all her own!—was the handiwork of Paris-based makeup artist, Fred Marin (see more of the beautiful midlife looks he has created for others, here).
Lady in red
I’ve been meaning to post a pic of Halle Berry’s gorgeous, jaw-skimming bob for a week or two, and her appearance last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live is the perfect excuse.
How lovely is this length?
I once interviewed Halle when she was in London promoting a movie, and she was absolutely lovely. Even then, she talked openly about her family history of diabetes, and how it informed her health and nutrition choices. And now, she’s an advocate for menopause awareness, with her own online community, Respin, devoted to perimenopause and menopausal health.
“This is our best act and we deserve to live it happy and in good health! We’re working every day to respin the conversation around women’s longevity and to raise funds for more research to equip our medical providers with more tools to guide us through our journey … as we continue to fight stigmas around menopause!” —@halleberry
But, back to the hair: this natural, unfussy look is a great example of how sea salt/texturising sprays can change the styling game (it’s been a few weeks since I’ve mentioned them, so we all knew it was coming).
If you’ve been following for a while, you know I love OUAI’s Wave Spray, and Hairstory’s Undressed (which, by the way, you can still score 10% off by entering JENNI10 at the checkout. The discount applies across the whole Hairstory range, and internationally).
Another contender which comes into its own now that the drizzly weather has set in: Color WOW’s Dream Coat Spray for Curly Hair.
This is the wavy/curly hair alternative to the OG Dream Coat Supernatural Spray (both are £27 each for a 200 ml bottle, but Space NK does have the mini 50 ml version at £15, FYI!).
I picked up a full size of the curly version at M&S last week (at the same time I was spritzing all the autumn perfumes), as I’ve heard AMAZING things about this. The idea is that it does the job of encouraging waves and curls, while also acting as a frizz shield.
I tried it over the weekend, sprayed through towel-dried hair, and it instantly revived my curls without stickiness. And I love the fresh, clean scent. TBH, I haven’t given it a fair test yet, as I’ve had my hair scraped up most days, but there is no trace of residue and my hair feels clean and soft. And since we’re talking wave sprays, I thought I’d flag it.
In other beauty news, British actress Thandiwe Newton’s daughter, Nico Parker, is the new, and youngest, face of Lancôme.
At 19, Nico (pictured with Thandiwe a few days ago in London, at a dinner hosted by Lancôme) has already appeared in the small and big screen, and has a role in the upcoming Bridget Jones movie.
Have a lovely rest of week, and see you on Friday!
Thank you so much for reading, and hitting ❤️ below posts, which helps others find The Midlife Beauty Edit and our lovely community here. I appreciate it so much.
And, finally, just a reminder that it takes a village to go Full Cindy.
I love the WOW products for my curly, frizzy, thick, grey hair especially that one - I use it before a thicker more defining product and it creates nice movement and a natural look.
Cindy is a gorgeous today as she was back in her 1992 workout video!
